Sarcoidosis Awareness of Northern California is a non-profit organization that provides support to patients, as well as their families and friends through discussions of shared experiences, educational research, support groups, patient assistance, referrals, but more importantly, encouragement and assisting one another to cope with this disease. Our mission is to "Provide Help to Those Who Seek It" The vision of Sarcoidosis Awareness of Northern California is to provide educational awareness and resourceful information about sarcoidosis to patients and the community. We want to bring awareness to this disease and continue the quest to find research, that will lead us to a cure. I was diagnosed with Pulmonary Sarcoidosis in early 2007, after having a bronchoscopy biopsy. I also have a family member diagnosed with Pulmonary Sarcoidosis. After being diagnosed with sarcoidosis, I began to do research to find out more about this disease that is often referred to as a mystery, or the great pretender. During my research I discovered the Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research in Chicago, http://www.stopsarcoidosis.org/ I began communicating with the members of the Foundation and discovered their were support groups in other states, however when it came to Northern California their were no support groups that I discovered during my research. I was then encouraged to start a support group in Northern California. Sarcoidosis Awareness of Northern California, Inc. was established in November 2009. I have over 20 years of experience working in the medical environment for various employers, including UC San Diego, UC San Francisco, Sutter Medical, as well as private offices and radiology facilities. Throughout my medical career, I learned about other medical conditions, but I had never heard of sarcoidosis until a family member was diagnosed with the disease. Now that I have been diagnosed with sarcoidosis, I have been inspired to help others understand and cope with this disease we all have in common. I may have been diagnosed with sarcoidosis, but I am determined to not let sarcoidosis have me. Sarcoidosis Awareness of Northern California does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or provide treatment. If you have a medical concern, please contact your healthcare provider.
